What is the “Kids Room”?

At past DYF galas, a few youth per year would join us to help us hand out thank you letters during the fundraising portion of the event. Over the years this grew into a full “kids room” with gluten-free catering and activities. The Ritz-Carlton has offered us a larger space for the kids room, allowing us to offer it more broadly than in the past!

Youth attendees must attend the gala with their parents/guardians/caregivers who must also be attending the gala. Youth attendees will be dropped off with counselors at the start of the event. They’ll have their own separate party room with activities and low supplies. They're fed a gluten-free dinner, after which the counselors bring them down to the ballroom where the kids get to run around and hand out thank you cards during the live auction and fund-a-need paddle raise. Then, after that, they rejoin their parents for dancing!

How old should kids room attendees be?

Our kids room is designed with an age range of 7*-14 years in mind, with most participants typically falling between 8 and 13 years old. This range allows us to create activities and experiences that are engaging and enjoyable for everyone.

*If your child is under 7, please reach out so we can discuss whether this event is a good fit. We want to be sure every child feels comfortable and supported. Children with prior diabetes camp experience or attending with an older sibling will likely be ready for the kids room!

Is there a dress code?

Youth attendees are encouraged to dress up!

Do I need to attend the gala to have my child attend the gala?

YES! This is not a drop-off event! Limited kids room tickets are available to gala attendees ONLY.

How do I sign up?

You can purchase kids room tickets in addition to your gala ticket or sponsorship on the “tickets” tab. Space is extremely limited in the Kids Room, so tickets will definitely run out before regular admissions do.
